Make A Wish Foundation

You’ve probably heard of the Make-A-Wish foundation before.

They help kids with medical conditions by granting their wishes. The children’s wishes vary, but Make-A-Wish Canada has helped kids obtain new technology (TVs, computers, etc.), travel to fun locations, meet celebrities (including Taylor Swift!), and make their dreams a reality (one girl got a chance to be a fashion model!).

That’s why we decided to choose Make-A-Wish Canada as one of our preferred charities. We admire their commitment to making kids’ lives better and believe that the work they do is for a great cause.

How the Make-A-Wish Foundation Was Born

The first wish ever was granted to a young boy named Chris who was diagnosed with stage four leukemia at the age of 5 (he was not expected to live past the age of 8). In spite of his own difficult situation, he mainly wanted to help and protect others. His dream was to become a police officer.

The day before Chris passed away, his wish was granted – a team of police officers presented him with an official Arizona Highway Patrol uniform. After that happened, the officers knew that they wanted to help other children like Chris find happiness in hard times. That’s when the Make-A-Wish Foundation started. Since then, Make-A-Wish has granted the wishes of over 290,000 sick children.

How to Get Involved and Help Terminally Ill Kids

There are countless kids in the world today that are facing life-threatening health problems, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and heart disease. But you can partner with Make-A-Wish Canada to help these kids enjoy a better quality of life in several different ways. Here’s how:

  • Make a donation – You can choose to make a one-time donation or become a regular donor by signing up to contribute monthly.
  • Start a fundraiser – To plan a fundraising event, all you need to do is contact the national office or your local chapter.
  • Become a volunteer – Like many other charitable organizations, Make-A-Wish Canada relies heavily on volunteers. If you’re interested in helping by donating your time, contact your local chapter to learn more.

Remember, any donation you can make will help the cause – even if you can only donate a small amount right now, you’ll still be making an impact.

How to Refer a Child for a Wish

Do you know a child who could benefit from the services of Make-A-Wish Canada?

If so, you can simply fill out a form on their website. Keep in mind that the child must be between the ages of 3 and 17 and must meet the other eligibility requirements outlined on the site.
